I am going to be in Boston for a month from now to get new clients for my company Abhav.com. I went to Boston downtown – to get a pulse of the city and people, I went from Malden station with Charlie ticket – took a Orange line and got down in Chinatown and spent few hours in downtown.

I went to downtown without a plan, I was in my jeans and t-shirt, this is no appropriate clothing to meet any potential client. But then, I decided to go as a tourist or as a person who lives there.

There are lot of potential for companies that are in MA and especially in and around Boston. When walking in streets – I saw lots of cab with banner hoods – stating like “Wanna hook up?”, “New to city, looking for job?” etc., but in most of them I did not see a phone number or the website details. So, how am I or anyone going to find more information?

At the end of evening, I was able to figure out that Wanna hook up? is a ad by Comcast. I was able to find out in the free newspaper stand.

I kept walking and took notes on voice recorder, on different ways of how companies are marketing in Boston. In their vehicles with domain name, in free newspaper, in GBCVB (Great Boston community and visitor bureau) information centers, in mall, in community yellow pages and a lot and lot more.

See below the street hoarding for a website by W Boston Residences.

These are very essential way of marketing, but http://wbostonresidences.com is forwarded to http://www.100stuartstreet.com/ – I have to tell you that the work on the site for SEO is not impressive and a lot can be done. I think the hoarding could have had 100 stuart street dot com directly and they could spend some money in Internet marketing as well. I will be glad to hear if they have anything different to say about this.

And walking towards Quincy market – I saw the breeze team (based in Bronx, NY) over there, it was awesome. These guys were performing in streets, entertaining hundreds of people and the crowd enjoyed their performance. You can check their website at Breeze Team.

What people expect from big companies or any company sometimes is to be among them and people had never failed to uplift a company, they keep the company way above and becomes part of their life, someone like google. Before adsense/adwords, other companies earned profit through advertisements or it was very discrete. Google opened doors for many people, kept things simple and open and in many ways they became part of user’s life.

Many companies went bankrupt, just because they failed to listen to customers pain or expectation. In Internet marketing, this issue matters a lot – there are tons of technical and non-technical ways to market a website online to increase roi, sales etc., but we have to keep in mind, that the target is a human and a visitor/customer for your site. You have to understand their taste, their culture and language geographically in order to target them in online correctly.

Some monopoly companies, take maximum profit – for example, Blockbuster did not reduce its price until a Netflix or a Redbox came – so what was the profit margin blockbuster was keeping earlier. There is nothing wrong in wanting to earn profit, but to rent a dvd you have to pay like 4$? You get to buy 4 dvd’s in some countries, not rent – BUY. This trend exists in other industries as well – but I think just because people in America can afford not necessarily means that things had to be overpriced for them.

Enough said about this, I know most of you could empathize with what I said, and what I said is truth.

I took some videos of Breeze team and then interviewed with one of the member, below is that clip.

Then on the way coming back saw lots of ads in train – but none of them was with any clarity – and no one seem to have replaced with new boards.

This is a great city and I liked it a lot – I hope I could use my company’s expertise to work for some companies that like to do things differently and in a right away.
